Open Source Intelligence Group
OSINT consists of collecting, verifying and analysing information from publicly available sources such as – but not limited to - the Internet, traditional mass media, specialized journals, photos, social media and geospatial information.
The OSINT Group plays an important role in providing the Policy Forum’s different programs with insight and context to their different research projects. In addition to supporting the programs, the group focuses on finding more efficient and reliable ways of flagging, extracting and analysing information of interest.
Information does not have to be secret to be valuable, but extracting valuable information often requires more than a trip to the local search engine. Furthermore, the sheer volume of data is daunting and one of the greatest challenges facing the OSINT community is extracting relevant and verifiable information from the vast amount of noise.
